Après la Guerre civile terminée par l’exécution de Charles Ier, Oliver Cromwell devient Lord protecteur du Commonwealth d’Angleterre. Sept années plus tard, des essais sont réalisés avec un portrait d’Oliver Cromwell en roi, lauré à gauche et la couronne royale au revers, par une gravure de Thomas Simon. La frappe est réalisée à la presse monétaire par Pierre Blondeau. Les épreuves ou essais de 50 shillings sont réalisés avec les coins utilisés pour le broad de 20 shillings, mais sur flan épais et au bon poids (2,5 fois la 20 shillings), avec la tranche inscrite en relief à l’aide d’une machine à deux viroles

チャールズ1世の処刑により終わりを告げたイングランド内戦の後、オリヴァー・クロムウェルがイングランド共和国初代護国卿となりました。それから7年後、王としてのクロムウェルの肖像がデザインされた試鋳貨が発行されました。表面の月桂冠左向き胸像、裏面の王冠は、彫刻師トーマス・サイモン氏のデザイン。ピエール・ブロンドー氏がプレス機を用いて製造しました。50 シリング試鋳貨の製造には、ブロード貨20シリングの鋳型が使われています。円形(えんぎょう) はより厚く、より重く (20シリングの2.5倍の重量)、2つの半円形鋳型に挟まれてエッジ に陽刻が施されました。

NGC AU 55. Edge in relief with two ferrules: + PROTECTOR. LITERIS. LITERÆ. NVMMIS. CORONA. ET. SALVS. Small marks on the scrolls. Slight hairlines. Patina with golden and pinkish reflections. Very rare type with about ten known examples. About Uncirculated.

After the Civil War ended with the execution of Charles I, Oliver Cromwell became Lord Protector of the Commonwealth of England. Seven years later, trials were carried out with a portrait of Oliver Cromwell as king, laureate on the left and the royal crown on the reverse, by an engraver Thomas Simon. The minting was carried out at the monetary press by Pierre Blondeau. The 50 shilling proofs or trials were made with the wedges used for the 20 shilling broad, but on a thick blank of the correct weight (2.5 times the 20 shilling), with the edge inscribed in relief using a two-ring machine.
